Applications are Open for the Civic Engagement Fellowship
Deadline: Sunday, November 15, 2026
Online Event
The GHEA21 Civic Engagement Fellowship is a one-year program for undergraduate students in the GHEA21 network. Each year, about 40 student Fellows are selected to participate.
Program Structure
• Fellows take part in 12 online, interactive workshops:
• 6 workshops before the in-person conference
• 6 workshops after the conference
• Fellows also attend a one-week, in-person conference, held halfway through the fellowship.
• Students with travel restrictions are strongly encouraged to apply! Every year, we host a concurrent online conference happening alongside the in-person conference. Travel should not be a barrier to participation.
Who Is Selected
The fellowship cohort includes 40 undergraduate students who:
• Are enrolled at a GHEA21 partner institution
• Have previously participated in the GHEA21 network, such as through online courses or workshops
• Have shown leadership in community-based civic engagement projects and are currently leading their own community-based project
• Will be enrolled at their institution for the 27-28 academic year and plan on continuing to lead their project
What Participants Do
• Join structured online learning sessions
• Receive mentorship
• Work on hands-on project development
• Participate in leadership training
• Practice facilitation by leading workshops
At the end of the fellowship year, there will be an online conference open to the entire GHEA21 network, where participants can share their work and reflect on what they learned.
