Southern states with conservative political leadership have made concerted efforts to silence the voice of college students, and especially minority college students, through removing polling locations on college campuses. This lecture will examine the history of this spatial political disenfranchisement to the current permutations as we approach the 2026 mid-term elections. Historically the civil rights movement has been led by politically activated student leaders, and the ballot box has been a major tool of building political power for historically marginalized groups. This lecture will educate the listener about these current attacks and provide ways to combat them.4:00 pm
