Berit Ebert

Bard College Berlin

Berit Ebert specializes in European Union law, looking at the intersection of gender equity, the rule of law, and subnational influence on supranational policymaking. She is the author of Wie Europa Zeus bändigte. Transnationalität im Gleichstellungsrecht der Europäischen Union (Tectum/Nomos, 2021), which elaborates on the impact of EU citizens on the development of EU gender equality law. Her articles appeared in Democracy SOS, Open Gender Journal, The Berlin Journal, and the blog History|Sexuality|Law. Recent articles are “Elections in Poland, with democracy hanging in the balance” (2023) and “Gender Equality und Rechtsstaatlichkeit in der EU. Die polnische Justizreform” (2022). Ebert contributed the chapter “International Investment Treaties and the Promotion of Gender Equality” to the forthcoming Open-Source Textbook International Investment Law and Investor-State Dispute Settlement. She is also the Director of Public Programs & Strategic Initiatives at Bard College Berlin.
