Marion Detjen

Bard College Berlin

Marion Detjen teaches history at Bard College Berlin and works for its „Program for International Education and Social Change“ (PIESC). Before joining BCB in 2016, she worked and taught at Humboldt University Berlin and at the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam. After attending the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales and studying European history and German literature and linguistics in Berlin and Munich she worked for several years as a freelance curator, teacher, writer, and activist, and received a PhD from Freie Universität Berlin with a dissertation on rescue helpers after the building of the Berlin Wall. Her interests include German and GDR post-war history, global history, exile, movement and migration, and the history of Berlin, among others. Marion is a co-founder and board member of the NGO "Wir machen das," and currently co-founding a new organisation for academic freedom in Germany.
