Pavel Kononenko

Smolny Beyond Borders

Pavel Kononenko is a political scientist whose research focuses on comparative politics, regional governance, and local self-government. He earned his PhD in Political Science in 2018. Between 2007 and 2022, Pavel held a long-term position at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Smolny College), Saint Petersburg State University. He served as an Associate Professor and headed the International Relations, Political Science, and Human Rights program from 2018 to 2022. His teaching experience includes graduate and postgraduate courses at the EUSPb and HSE SPb. Beyond his core research, he has completed extensive professional development in liberal arts pedagogy and online teaching methods. He has also completed specialized professional development in oil and gas industry operations and global sustainability transitions. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Local Government Studies.
