The New Jim Crow in East Ramapo

GHEA21 / Resources / Video Collection / Case Studies / The New Jim Crow in East Ramapo

East Ramapo is a small area within Spring Valley in Rockland County, which in 2009 saw a shift in population: what was once a place with primarily people of color became predominantly white. With that, the makeup of the school board changed as well, and the public schools, which are primarily attended by Black and Latinx students, suffered the most. This documentary explores this issue and highlights community leaders who are fighting for change.

Produced and directed by Emily Shores, Ignacio Acevedo, Marina Holmes, Leeloo Hellie, Jame Dimaso

Executive Producers: Eva Egensteiner and Seamus Heady
