Academic Certificate Programs

Academic Certificates are micro-credentials: clusters of courses that students complete in order to earn official recognition from their home institutions.  They are a way for non-degree students, including refugee and displaced learners, to obtain credits and formal evidence of sustained university study, and they provide a way for all students to signal to employers, graduate programs, and others that they have engaged in serious, sustained study in particular interdisciplinary subject areas. Students who complete Certificate Programs receive transferable academic credits, formal attestations of program completion, and transcript recognition or the equivalent from their home institutions.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

GHEA21 announces the launch of three new academic certificate programs:

  • Global Humanities provides students with the opportunity to transcend their own cultural traditions and explore the human experience through diverse global perspectives.
  • Global Studies offers a structured path for students to understand how global phenomena affect different places in different ways, to address transnational challenges, such as forced migration and global pandemics, and to reimagine political organizations and citizenship to strengthen connections across borders.
  • Sustainability and Climate Solutions explores key questions and builds practical skills on addressing human needs while preserving the health of the natural and social ecosystems on which our well-being depends.

Applications are open for these new certificate programs and for existing certificates in Civic Engagement, Education, and Human Rights.

    The Certificate in Education provides a structured path for students interested in gaining a foundational knowledge of the theory and practice of education.

    This certificate offers students the opportunity to step outside their own traditions and see the world from distinct global perspectives. 

  • Global Studies

    This certificate offers students a structured approach to understanding global affairs and international relations, both theoretically and practically, from a range of perspectives. 

  • Human Rights

    The certificate provides a structured path for students interested in deepening their knowledge and understanding of human rights theory and practice. 

  • Sustainability and Climate Solutions

    This certificate builds critical thinking and practical skills for students across disciplines — the arts, humanities, social and natural sciences — to address sustainability and climate challenges.
